A one of a kind opportunity not to be missed! There serenity of the beach and this gorgeous property awaits you. No fancy clothes needed for this trip. Relax like you have never done before in this truly ZEN environment. The retreat includes transportation to and from Arcata Airport, guest accommodations, golf instruction, meditation technique, playing golf, organic meals from our garden, beach walk and/or sourdough bread making, jewelry made from shells, tractor driving, line dancing, etc.! The accommodations are clean, cute, and small. Queen sized beds. Alcohol not included but Dana will shop for any requests and you can settle bill at the end depending upon consumption. A note from Dana: My name is Dana Bates, living in Petrolia with my sweetheart Dan Berger on Chambers Road. I am an LPGA Golf Professional. A few highlights of my career- I was voted Top 50 Golf Instructor in 2004, appeared on The Today Show, was on the cover of Golf for Women magazine and recently competed in the 2022 US Senior Women’s Open and made the cut! I have been a Teaching Professional at LaQuinta Country Club, CA, Quaker Ridge Country Club, Scarsdale NY, and Exmoor Country Club in IL. So how can this LPGA golfer fit in with me at Petrolia? Dan asked. I responded, “I’m a hippie trapped in a golfers body!” So here we are loving life in Petrolia. Last November while practicing for the LPGA National Team Championship on Dan’s property I asked him if I could build a golf course, and he said, “Sure! Why not?” So I did. We now have a 9 hole target golf course and can hit every club in the bag (we have two holes that are 300 yards). Since the ‘Opening’ we have hosted a Jr. Golf Class, now coaching an After School Golf Class for the children on Wednesdays, and also host The Lost Coast Golf Retreat. We have 3 Airbnb sites to host guests for the golf retreat that is all inclusive, eat from the organic garden, introduce people to Ferndale, the Redwoods, The Lost Coast and Dan’s ‘best sourdough bread on the planet’!

A note from Mattole Restoration Council: Help our community-based nonprofit obtain a beautifully restored 1908 home for the Mattole Resilience, Education, and Research Center! The Mattole Restoration Council board and staff are elated to be partnering with local architect and builder Jim Groeling to purchase his beautifully restored 1908 home in Petrolia to serve as the home for the Mattole Resilience, Education, and Research Center. This historic home site links directly to 83 acres of land that we are acquiring for conservation. Together, the two purchases will provide a breathtaking natural and built space for our organization to pursue its mission and carry out projects to conserve and restore the land, create an interpretive trail network, and host the Mattole Resilience, Education, and Research Center. The Mattole Resilience, Education, and Research Center aims to create lasting economic, ecological, and cultural resilience in our remote rural watershed community. It will do so by conserving open space for public use, and hosting collaborative field-based education, research, and workforce development opportunities to deepen understanding, appreciation, and conservation of the Mattole River watershed and the adjacent Lost Coast’s outstanding natural features and biodiversity.
